US Navy warheads are always loaded with latest weapons no matter what it costs. United States has awarded two contracts worth US$14.7 million on July 7, 2006, for the development of an electro-magnetic gun. The best part about electro-magnetic rail gun is that it does not require powders or explosives to fire the round. Current Navy guns, which shoot powder-ignited explosive shells, have a maximum range of 12 miles and because they are unguided, are difficult to aim.
The U.S.Navy is developing an electromagnetic rail gun that will turn destroyers into super-long-range machine guns. Electro-magnetic guns are well known for their long range and accuracy. The electromagnetic rail gun’s projectile covers 290 miles in six minutes-initially traveling 8,200 feet per second and hitting their target at 5,000 feet per second.
