With this new mid air bursting satellite guided bomb that releases thousands of darts each carrying a powerful chemical called DETA (Liquid diethylene triamine) the navy can now effectively destroy landmines and water mines.
Each dart is of .5 caliber with its blunt tip being made of tungsten that helps it to penetrate water and ground.
As the dart hits the ground DETA is released and if that does not destroy the mine upon impact DETA will corrode it so that it becomes ineffective.
The effective speeds at which these darts travel are of 300 meter/second and they do not get destroyed upon impact as the blunt nose makes an air bubble around it which helps it in penetrating water and soil. The impact of a single dart bomb is concentrated in the area of 60 sq feet there by increasing the probability of cleaning the area in one strike.
The penetration capacity in water ranges from 10 to 12 feet while tests on sand revealed that darts can penetrate two feet’s of depth.
Its humanitarian use can be that of cleaning minefields which till now was very dangerous as it required humans to go in and defuse mines.
