Researchers have recently developed a magic liquid that turn lightweight material into full-body armor. The new ‘liquid armor’ is a boon for on-field soldiers with all body parts not covered with safety suits and other gears.
The liquid armor is a combined effort of teams lead by Norman Wagner at the University of Delaware and Eric Wetzel at the U.S. Army Research Lab in Aberdeen, MD. The magic liquid, known as ’shear thickening fluid’, is made of hard nanoparticles and nonevaporating liquid that automatically turns into a solid within milliseconds when hit. The hardening is so strong that it even prevents bullet and knife penetration. Soldiers can easily wear this flexible and light material and can effectively protect limbs and other exposed parts of the body.
