The US Military is continuing on the way to manufacture space shuttle that can be utilized as space bomber and could drop the bomb anywhere on the globe in two hours. A vain attempt was made in 2004 when Boeing’s unmanned X-37 orbital plane was launched. The experts say that the whole process will take 10 to 20 years more to finish a perfect MSP.
The unmanned X-37 is smaller in size than the shuttle, weighting of 5 to 8 tons with fuel, and measuring 9 meters. The shuttle measures 37 meters weighing 94 tons. The X-37 can afford only 1 to 2 tons of load while shuttle can carry 20 tons. Both the space shuttle as well as X-37 requires another aircraft or rocket boost to propagate.
Katz-Hyman, a research associate for The Henry L.Stimson Center, says, “all the research is driven by the Pentagon’s desperate desire for the capability to carry out a “rapid global strike,” i.e. hit any target on Earth within two hours of orders being issued”. At present, long-range bomber are propelled by stealth bombers or B-52s that takes about 12 to 24 hours to perform.
Will MSP afford space bombing at required pace?
