Raytheon has developed the first of its kind GPS guided artillery which is ready for deployment in Kuwait after 8 years of research and development.

The artillery was tested in Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. During the test 13 out of 14 managed to hit targets with only 10 meters of error when fired from a distance of 24 km, even when it was aimed 15 degrees off target.

But the major concern for anything that runs on GPS signals is that these signals can be easily hampered by clouds and rain.

US Navy has also started researching on non-lethal weapons.

They are now developing a non-lethal ‘Vomit Beam’ that can temporarily stun the target.

The weapon shoots an invisible wall-penetrating beam that makes the target so dizzy that they puke.

The company which is researching the device is touting that it is a ‘Star Trek hand-held Phaser Weapon set on Stun’. But according to me it can also be set on ‘Puke’.

China has been working on increasing its defense power. Initially the company blinded a U.S. satellite with a laser, and then they destroyed a satellite more than 500 miles up and now the country officials are spending the most in five years in defense.

The result of this is a new J-10 stealth fighter. This is the country’s first indigenous state-of-the-art fighter jet.

The machine is a single-seat and single-engine plane that can reach a speed of Mach 2. The country officials also commented that the jet is thought to be the equal of just about every other fighter in the world. The only exception is America’s new F-22 Raptor.

China is also sending this new jet to Russia where current and former Red militaries will team up in joint exercises.

China has also started working on the upgrade of this new jet with new jets named J-12 and J-13 in the development phase.

US Military’s AEHF or Advanced Extremely High Frequency Milstar III satellites will provide a support to twice the capacity and 6 times higher data transfer than that of the current Milstar II satellites.

These satellites will form the secure backbone of the Pentagon’s intermediate term Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) architecture. This process will continue until the larger capacity Transformational Communications Satellite System enters service and replaces them.

This program will cover cost overruns and schedule slips.

DARPA is these days developing an “ultrasonic curtain” that is intended to lower noise levels by at least 30db in military vehicles.

It’s in actual a sonic cloaking device that could shield an entire vehicle through “absorption of transverse acoustic energy through a vertically projected ultrasonic field.’

Reduction in noise levels by at least 30dB would facilitate U.S. forces to efficiently operate noticeably closer to enemy forces without being detected aurally. They will have a “field demonstration of a vehicle operating over a military test range.”

This boat dubbed MRVI or Marine Robotics Vessels International Interceptor is the world’s most advanced autonomous boat.

The machine unveiled at IDEX 2007 in Abu Dhabi is a fourth-generation unmanned surface vessel.

SeaRobotics has provided al the command, control and navigation systems for the boat. These systems allow the boat to the controlled from a remote location by radio and also run the boat in autonomous mode.

In the autonomous mode an onboard computer will steer the boat to a predefined location to complete the mission.

The boat is powered by a 266-HP Steyr multi-fuel diesel engine with Hamilton jet propulsor.

The machine will find applications in anti-piracy patrol and oil rig surveillance.

People from around the globe are determining the makers of the deadly Iraqi EFP’s, and there is a finger pointing at everyone.

The real fact is that there are many groups that can make those deadly weapons.

The US military is also enabling the soldiers to make their own EFPs. For them the M303 is nothing more than an instant cake mix, all they have to do is to just add explosives.

The kit is a collection of metals and plastic parts. A special selection of attachments can be tailored to the bombs to make them specific for a specific target.

Near the mission jump-off site the user will study the exact selection of warheads that can easily penetrate the target.

Macroswiss has developed a new device named ACCS or Advanced Combat Camera System for military purposes.

The device can also be thought of as a 21st century periscope but has far more application areas than the traditional periscope.

The ACCS is a evolution of the highly successful Giraffe pole camera system and it also incorporates color zoom, low light and thermal sensors.

The amazing features of this device makes it useful in a multitude of roles in support of combat units at fire team level and also provides an Onboard DVR system for intelligence applications.

U.S. Army is getting too serious about their copter crashes in Iraq.

The army wants to get their hands on a Trophy type defense system for their helicopters.

Israeli army is already using a system dubbed Trophy. The system is called as an ‘active defense system‘ and it works by keeping anti-aircraft missiles away from the copters. The copter determines that a missile is on its target and then it shoots a mini missile to destroy the approaching danger.

US Army has refused to use the same system in their own copters claiming that the system can be of danger to civilians and friendly forces on the ground.

If they do not want to use Trophy then they have to develop an even better system that destroys these missiles in air so that there is no danger to friendly forces and civilians on ground.

For some a minute is more than enough. But think for a time when a suspicious packet arrives and the bomb detection squad is miles away. Then you may find this handy!

ELITE or Easy Livermore Inspection Test for Explosives is a handheld unit that can detect more than 30 different types of explosives.

When you get to a suspicious packet just take out a swipe from the packet of ELITE and rub it onto the surface. Wait for a minute and if the color changes to then run for safety or throw the packet away...!
