How much will your gun sell for?

As a result of credit counseling, you are thinking of selling assets including your gun. Before we start to talk about values of guns for sale, let us quickly review the regulations about how guns can be sold legally. Because of federal restrictions on gun ownership and the different state regulations on licensing and registration, selling a gun legally is not a straightforward affair. Generally speaking, the requirements are less stringent when one individual sells to another. Check the laws in your particular state and particularly your local police website. A private owner in some states is allowed to sell a gun without a waiting period or a background check. Find a federally licensed gun dealer to handle the sale for you and complete the necessary background checks. Many gun shops will do this for a fee. You may also be able to find dealers on the Internet who will give you the necessary instructions on how to proceed. You could also try and display your gun at a gun show where a lot of buyers will get the chance to see your gun. If your gun is an antique (manufactured in or before 1898) it can be sold without the requirement of a gun license. You should, however, check the relevant state regulation in the State where you live. You can sell an antique gun through a gun dealer or an auction house. To get an idea of what your gun is worth, you could get a market appraisal conducted by a gun broker. This would provide you with an estimate of the retail value of your gun in the current market conditions. This type of appraisal will never give you the highest market value because there are a number of factors that will negatively impact on the sale value. Like any other used article market, the used gun market has its share of conmen and there are middlemen who make a living by buying up guns cheap and selling them at a higher price.
