The deadly weapon pictured above is a machine gun dubbed Metal Storm that is under development in Australia and is being under consideration for use by US military. It’s in actual an Area Denial Weapon System (ADWS) that plainly fills the air with lead without the need to be operated by a being. The beast can fire 6000 rounds per minute at anything that is set in motion. The technology used in Metal Storm lets the machine fires projectiles sequentially from the barrel. How will it look like if we place the deadly gun in hands of current high-tech robots. Video of the metal Storm after the jump. Via: Newlaunches

US Army plans a non-lethal Paralyzing Floodlight
US Army has developed a great number of non-lethal weapons to combat civil revolts. Now the latest development is a 7.5 million candlepower strobe floodlight system that temporarily paralyzes all its human targets. The device will be mounted on an unmanned air vehicle as a non-lethal crowd control system. The system uses a xenon-based searchlight that can be pulsed with a unique modulation effect that results in immobilization to those within the beam. The device looks great to control a mob, but I hope it does not have any long term effects…! Via: wired
Armoured Talon Riot Control Vehicle for sale on eBay
The remarkable Talon Riot Control Vehicle is currently at eBay for bidding. ELITE: A handheld device to detect explosives in a minute
For some a minute is more than enough. But think for a time when a suspicious packet arrives and the bomb detection squad is miles away. Then you may find this handy! ELITE or Easy Livermore Inspection Test for Explosives is a handheld unit that can detect more than 30 different types of explosives. When you get to a suspicious packet just take out a swipe from the packet of ELITE and rub it onto the surface. Wait for a minute and if the color changes to then run for safety or throw the packet away…! Via: gizmodo
‘Trophy’: An active helicopter defense system
U.S. Army is getting too serious about their copter crashes in Iraq. The army wants to get their hands on a Trophy type defense system for their helicopters. Israeli army is already using a system dubbed Trophy. The system is called as an ‘active defense system’ and it works by keeping anti-aircraft missiles away from the copters. The copter determines that a missile is on its target and then it shoots a mini missile to destroy the approaching danger. US Army has refused to use the same system in their own copters claiming that the system can be of danger to civilians and friendly forces on the ground. If they do not want to use Trophy then they have to develop an even better system that destroys these missiles in air so that there is no danger to friendly forces and civilians on ground. Via: wired
M303: An instant cake mix for US military
People from around the globe are determining the makers of the deadly Iraqi EFP’s, and there is a finger pointing at everyone. The real fact is that there are many groups that can make those deadly weapons. The US military is also enabling the soldiers to make their own EFPs. For them the M303 is nothing more than an instant cake mix, all they have to do is to just add explosives. The kit is a collection of metals and plastic parts. A special selection of attachments can be tailored to the bombs to make them specific for a specific target. Near the mission jump-off site the user will study the exact selection of warheads that can easily penetrate the target. Via: wired
Macroswiss develops ACCS for soldiers
Macroswiss has developed a new device named ACCS or Advanced Combat Camera System for military purposes. The device can also be thought of as a 21st century periscope but has far more application areas than the traditional periscope. The ACCS is a evolution of the highly successful Giraffe pole camera system and it also incorporates color zoom, low light and thermal sensors. The amazing features of this device makes it useful in a multitude of roles in support of combat units at fire team level and also provides an Onboard DVR system for intelligence applications. MRVI: The world’s most advanced autonomous boat
This boat dubbed MRVI or Marine Robotics Vessels International Interceptor is the world’s most advanced autonomous boat. The machine unveiled at IDEX 2007 in Abu Dhabi is a fourth-generation unmanned surface vessel. SeaRobotics has provided al the command, control and navigation systems for the boat. These systems allow the boat to the controlled from a remote location by radio and also run the boat in autonomous mode. In the autonomous mode an onboard computer will steer the boat to a predefined location to complete the mission. The boat is powered by a 266-HP Steyr multi-fuel diesel engine with Hamilton jet propulsor. The machine will find applications in anti-piracy patrol and oil rig surveillance. Via: crave
Pirates kept at bay with high-tech weaponry
Piracy has been a major problem in the Arabian sea and Indian ocean after the disruption of the Said Barre regime in Somalia. Expert fishermen with no one to sell their catch to, the Somalis were led to become pirates by their extreme poverty. But that was then; now, piracy is their vocation, and the trade ships of the international community are their victims, as well as pleasure cruises and passenger ships. To confront the rampant piracy, a number of warships from the major countries of the world have been deployed in the Somali waters. Countries like the USA, Japan, China, Russia and India have all deployed a number of war ships. These ships are high level destroyers that carry sophisticated weaponry and tracking devices to engage, attack and capture the Somali pirates. Perhaps the most important devices on these ships are not the tactical weapons, but the tracking devices. These include high tech sonar, radar, GPS devices, and a host of other high end, secretive devices. These are all used to track down small pirate vessels, chase them from a distance when they move towards the mother ship of the pirates, and then help capture the mother ship itself, rather than a small vessel with a few pirates. The Tactical Gear used include helicopters with small missiles and door side machine guns. There are also long range missiles, grenade launchers, sub machine guns and automatic pistols. The most sophisticated weapons are found in the US naval ships, including short range, precision controlled ballistic missiles, unmanned fighter planes and tracking drones etc.
Real-Life Laser Weapons Inching Towards Reality
You all must be very familiar with Laser weapons and must have seen some in sci-fi movies. But this is reality that we are talking about. Two main companies that are going for the challenge are Raytheon and Northrop Grumman. Raytheon has stated that their latest creation is a prototype solid state Laser Area Defense System (LADS) with which they have successfully detonated 60 mm mortars. On the other hand the second in the business that is Northrop is opening up a new directed energy production facility for building high energy solid state lasers. The most important announcement is from the Raytheon group who has claimed that their lasers are capable of detonating mortars. But still they have not yet reached the 100 kilowatt threshold which they say is the minimum requirement for the weapons grade lasers. The company has used been able to detonate only 60-mm mortars and they have not commented how long they were zapped. As even a weak laser can bore a hole in a metal if it is focused for enough time and moreover the mortars were on the ground and not flying in the air. However, Northrop has also opened a new facility for producing what the company claims to be the first 100 KW laser. They have also stated that the first product will be made available by the end of next year.
